Les crat\u00e8res appari\u00e9s sont repr\u00e9sent\u00e9s en vert.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>SHERBROOKE, Qu\u00e9bec, Canada, [30 avril 2025] &#8211; Le syst\u00e8me de navigation optique bas\u00e9 sur les crat\u00e8res de NGC a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9montr\u00e9 avec succ\u00e8s lors de la r\u00e9cente mission lunaire Blue Ghost de Firefly Aerospace, en mars dernier. En tant que charge utile \u00e0 bord de la mission Blue Ghost 1, le syst\u00e8me de navigation lunaire global de NGC a \u00e9t\u00e9 test\u00e9 et compar\u00e9 au syst\u00e8me de navigation par vision primaire de Firefly apr\u00e8s l&rsquo;atterrissage.<\/p>\n<p>Le syst\u00e8me de navigation optique du NGC utilise les crat\u00e8res lunaires comme r\u00e9f\u00e9rences topographiques pour localiser avec pr\u00e9cision un v\u00e9hicule autour de la Lune. Il fournit une mesure de position similaire \u00e0 celle d&rsquo;un capteur GPS sur Terre, mais sans l&rsquo;infrastructure d&rsquo;un syst\u00e8me GPS. Seuls une cam\u00e9ra et le logiciel du NGC sont n\u00e9cessaires.<\/p>\n<p>Ce syst\u00e8me, appel\u00e9 <em>Crater-Based Absolute Navigation<\/em> (AbsNAV), est con\u00e7u pour d\u00e9terminer de mani\u00e8re autonome la position d&rsquo;un orbiteur ou d&rsquo;un atterrisseur en coordonn\u00e9es g\u00e9ographiques lunaires. Cette technique enti\u00e8rement autonome traite les images des cam\u00e9ras prises depuis l&rsquo;orbite lunaire et pendant la descente, extrait les crat\u00e8res et apparie les crat\u00e8res d\u00e9tect\u00e9s avec une carte de r\u00e9f\u00e9rence des crat\u00e8res pr\u00e9enregistr\u00e9e \u00e0 bord. Cette carte de r\u00e9f\u00e9rence, qui contient des millions de crat\u00e8res, est \u00e9tablie avant la mission sur la base d&rsquo;informations sur la surface de la Lune et d&rsquo;images orbitales obtenues lors de missions pr\u00e9c\u00e9dentes. Le syst\u00e8me de navigation d\u00e9termine la position de l&rsquo;atterrisseur par rapport \u00e0 la carte de r\u00e9f\u00e9rence. Il permet d&rsquo;estimer la position absolue de l&rsquo;atterrisseur en orbite lunaire basse et pendant l&rsquo;orbite de descente afin d&rsquo;affiner l&rsquo;estimation de la position de l&rsquo;atterrisseur et d&rsquo;augmenter la pr\u00e9cision au moment de l\u2019alunissage. Cette technologie est n\u00e9cessaire pour r\u00e9pondre aux exigences des futures missions d&rsquo;alunissage de pr\u00e9cision.<\/p>\n<p>Le syst\u00e8me de NGC a fait l&rsquo;objet d&rsquo;une d\u00e9monstration r\u00e9ussie \u00e0 bord de l&rsquo;atterrisseur Blue Ghost de Firefly \u00e0 l&rsquo;aide d&rsquo;images acquises pendant la descente. L&rsquo;analyse des r\u00e9sultats montre que le syst\u00e8me a r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 fournir des mesures de position avec une pr\u00e9cision de 100 m ou mieux en utilisant les images prises par l&rsquo;atterrisseur \u00e0 des altitudes comprises entre 50 km et 20 km. Ce r\u00e9sultat a \u00e9t\u00e9 obtenu gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 la d\u00e9tection d&rsquo;environ 25 crat\u00e8res en moyenne sur les images individuelles pendant la trajectoire de descente.
